Dr. Ralph B.
Allison
A pioneering psychiatrist who spent over 24 years treating dissociative patients. His discovery of the Inner Self Helper transformed the understanding of Multiple Personality Disorder and illuminated the spiritual dimension of the human mind.
"The mind does not break; it simply finds new ways to hold its pieces."
I am a retired board-certified forensic psychiatrist who has been treating dissociators since 1972. With 24 years of clinical experience to look back on, now I can see previously obscure facts about dissociating patients. With this website, I hope to make these insights available to psychotherapists, attorneys, and dissociated patients in need of understanding a complex and controversial subject.
What Is Spiritual Psychology?
Dr. Allison's discovery of the Inner Self Helper, or ISH, illuminated the spiritual aspect of the human mind — an aspect feared and thus ignored by others in the field. His clinical work revealed that within dissociated patients existed an internal entity of remarkable wisdom and therapeutic insight.
This discovery bridged psychiatric practice and spiritual understanding, offering a framework that respected both the scientific and transcendent dimensions of human consciousness.
The Inner Self Helper is the part of the mind that knows the whole story — past, present, and future — and serves as an internal therapist of extraordinary capability.
